Why is it that…

Why is it that –

  • What you expect from a person is not similar to what you will return to the same person
  • When a person chooses to be silent over issues, you treat it as his acceptance and not defiance
  • When it comes to family matters you allow only one side to prosecute and the other never to defend
  • You forget old friendships because you now have new relationships
  • The very people who hurt you once suddenly become dearer to you than the ones who have never hurt you
  • You are so self-centred that you expect people to be in touch but you will not reciprocate the same
  • You can choose so easily and take sides without giving it a second thought as to how your actions will impact the one whose side you chose not to be on
  • You cannot take delight in seeing your near-dear ones prosper
  • You are perpetually competing and cannot be content
  • You put on such a façade especially to the ones who know you inside out
  • You call yourself a dear one, but are never there when it matters the most

Loved this, esp the first line. I have a hard time accepting help becoz I can never pay back the same person, but I can help another person!

As for perpetually competing, and not being happy for near-dear ones' prosperity, and that facade, yes, I've done those too. So so shameful.

@Nita: The post came out after dealing with such stuff in real life! It's sad indeed how people can manipulate relations and sadly though I would want to avoid them at times I can't!

@Swapna: Well said but this was a result of all the stuff that I've seen of late in and around me especially from people who claim they are close to us!

Very nice…some of the above we all gone through unknowingly and some for the evil within us.. Whc we need to conquer.

Minal, there are people like that. I know yours was a kind of philosophical post, but really, if someone has all of the above qualities they should be avoided like the plague!

@dev: that was so beautiful! Every word every line touched the heart!
Yes I know I can be strong but I hate it when supposedly loved ones put on a farce and give you advices on the importance of relationships when they themselves don't know how to abide by it! I dunno how long one can take – being taken for granted- I just can't see some of my loved ones hurt time and again and at some point I worry I might let go real bad at those who keep hurting them!
On the other hand we are glad that we have such lovely people like u both around us:-)

Here's a reciprocation, if you may Minal… This was one of the first things in my life that I read that touched me… I think i was in primary school then. This my was aunt's fav and every opportunity she'd get, she would very subtly remind of of the same.

Your post, brought back memories when once I lived with her reference as a guideline… So thank you… Coz it reminded me to do so again 🙂

    Here it is:
    ———
After a while, you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul,
And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning
    And company doesn't mean security,
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts
    And presents aren't promises,
And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes open,
With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child,
And learn to build all your roads on today
Because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans,
And futures have a way of falling down in midflight
And after a while, you learn
That even sunshine burns if you get too much.
So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure…
    That you really are strong
And you really do have worth
    And you learn and learn…
    With every goodbye, you learn.
